Class 5 integrator indicators are practically equivalent to control with a biological indicator.
For example, the autoclave integrator indicator strip changes color from yellow to black only if the sterilization conditions (temperature, contact time, steam quality) are suitable for destroying 10^6 Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores.
Only partial discoloration of the yellow circle indicates the absence of one or more conditions for effective sterilization.
