The CRYOMILL ball mill is specially designed for cryogenic grinding. Hard, medium-hard, soft, brittle, elastic and fibrous samples as well as heat-sensitive materials (e.g. plastic) can be effectively ground with the device.
The grinding vessel is continuously cooled by the integrated cooling system with liquid nitrogen during and before the grinding process, thus preserving the nature of the brittle and volatile components of the sample. An automatic filling system (AUTOFILL) from a 10-liter container provides the necessary amount of cryogenic liquid, which circulates continuously in the device, to maintain the temperature at -196 °C.
The advantages of the system: guaranteed low sample temperature, final particle size around 5 microns, economical N2 consumption, particularly fast grinding time. The system is also suitable for grinding without cooling. The automated cooling system guarantees that the grinding process only starts when the sample has cooled down sufficiently. All this results in economical LN2 consumption and reproducible sample grinding.
CRYOMILL is a workplace - a grinding chamber - vibrating ball mill. The principle of sample grinding is the same as that of the RETSCH MM 400 type.
More detailsThe intense vibration with a frequency of 25 Hz effectively grinds most materials in a few minutes. The sample is mainly ground due to the impacts, but it is further refined due to the friction created between the particles and the wall of the grinding vessel. The final particle size is significantly smaller than in other cryogenic grinding equipment. Grinding parameter combinations can be easily stored, simplifying routine tasks.
The current operating – cooling, grinding – parameters and the remaining time of the timer (10 sec – 99 min) can be read from the LED display.
The grinding bowls are made of stainless steel. Their volume can be: 50, 35, 25 and 5 ml (4 of the latter container can be inserted into the device with an adapter). The grinding balls for each grinding vessel can be selected from the MM 400 table.
