From 2025, the VX/VE and DX/DE autoclaves will also receive a new color, touch-screen controller. The controller is identical to the controller built into the second generation (2G) of the HX autoclaves, which has the following main features: advanced HMI and PLC control, touch-screen display, 100 pcs. uploadable, changeable programs. Data can be downloaded from the autoclave via USB connector. The documents are in .pdf and/or .csv (Excel) format. No special PC software is required to open the documents. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 compatible software can be ordered as an option for this controller.

Measuring the temperature of liquids with an immersion sensor

Sterilization of liquids is a daily task in microbiological laboratories. The solutions are usually placed in bottles filled to a maximum of ¾ (protects the culture medium from boiling out of the container), semi-sealed in the space of the autoclave. Only pressure-resistant bottles may be completely sealed and only in the suitable autoclave!

As soon as the device is charged, the sterilization program is started. Old-style, mechanically controlled autoclaves (many types available today are like this) only measure the pressure in the tank. The sterilization temperature is calculated by the user from the pressure-temperature relationship specified by the manufacturer, and the sterilization time starts when the appropriate pressure is reached.

However, time has passed for this method, because increasingly strict quality assurance regulations require the documentation of the process, and indirect temperature measurement no longer fits into this.

Only real temperature data are suitable for documentation! For this, the temperature must be measured with the sensor immersed in the liquid to be sterilized. This can only be achieved with modern autoclaves such as Systec autoclaves. When the temperature sensor immersed in the liquid indicates 121°C, the sterilization temperature has been reached not only in the space surrounding the 0.5-10 liter glass containers, but also in the liquid to be sterilized. This is very important, since the two media will have the same temperature with a significant time difference! Only then can the countdown of the sterilization time be started.

The type of autoclave is given by the combination of the group name (e.g., Systec VX) and the number indicating the chamber volume (65): thus, the Systec VX-65 type means a 65 liter, vertical, steam generator autoclave.

HX-type autoclaves - with a chamber with a diameter of 400, 500, 740 and 1,000 mm, in sixteen sizes (with a chamber depth of 500, 750, 1,000, 1,250, 1,500, 1,750 and 2,000 mm), with a net chamber volume of 65 - 1,580 liters.
